CABIN IN THE WOODS
In the North-West Territory of Canada there is a little cabin. It is a one room cabin, with a little cast iron stove, a simple cot, and wooden table. Go and live in this cabin for a year and you will begin to understand the world.
Observe the animals,
Study the plants,
Pay attention to the rainfall and snowfall,
Watch the sunrises and the sunsets,
Take a look at the stars and the Northern lights,
Note the position of the moon,
And its various stages of waxing and waning,
Its absence and its full glory,
Lay in the grass and breathe in the fresh air,
Dip your hands into an ice cold stream,
And drink the water of life,
Get out and gather what you need,
There is work to do,
The animals will tell you that,
Birds build nests and raise their chicks,
Squirrels store up food for the winter,
The honey bee gathers nectar,
And the beaver builds his dam,
The ants are diligent at their work,
They travel great distances to obtain supplies,
They do not grumble or complain,
Though they are small,
They can lift many times their weight,
They work tirelessly out in the hot sun,
They are brave warriors,
And scared little children,
Together they are strong,
In cooperation they survive,
When you get out and breathe in the fresh air,
When you take time to be still,
To take in the beauty of this world,
Your worries will begin to wash away.
You can find inner peace,
Not from solving all your problems,
There will always be problems to solve,
And flaws to sort out,
You can find peace by being still,
By recognizing that you are apart of this world,
We are not a cancer like some have said,
We are apart of the creation we see about us,
Yet there is a spark of divinity in humanity.
We have yet to see what we will become,
However, we can always look back,
We can look through the eyes,
Of poets and storytellers.
We can take hold of the truths,
That have always stood for humanity,
Go and live in this cabin for a year,
Let nature be your teacher,
You will begin to understand the world,
And hopefully learn how to live,
